Summer project: coursework planning

Music video 1: Marshmello x YUNGBLUD x blackbear - Tongue Tied

How is narrative used in this music video to engage the audience?

At the start of the music video the young rebellious teens are trying to hold off the police offers and they are running away from them and then they start fighting with the police officers but then they end up getting caught and then outside there’s a riot showing there’s a fight between the rebellious vs the police officers but then in the middle they end up being set free by this man and they start throwing fire and a riot towards the police. At the end the Marshmallow guy comes out holding a flag showing that they won the riot.

Music video 2: Years & Years - I Wish I Knew

How is camerawork and mise-en-scene used in this video? Use CLAMPS to remember the different aspects of mise-en-scene.

Mise-en-scene is shown by all the balloons and decorative styles at the back and also the instruments in the background and the setting is in a normal room with a group of guys singing and dancing and playing with the instruments. The camera shot in the beginning is close up shot and over the shoulder shot featuring the main character and then it gradually gets into long shot showing each character slowly getting in the video and then they start dancing and having fun while the confetti is being thrown at them. Towards the end it goes into an over shoulder shot featuring again the main character and then the music goes off and the camera blurrs out.

Music video 3: Foals - Hummer

How is editing used in this music video to engage the audience?

Editing is used in this music video showing every feature back and forth and each character back and forth in different angles to make it look interesting and to engage the audience and then it shows the band and each individuals and them all together doing weird things which will make the viewer curious and engaged.

 My sister
My uncle
My mum

Locations:
In a car
Kitchen
Swimming pool

Costume/make-up/props required:
Phone
Mascara
Car
And other stuff

3) Statement of Intent

The artist and song I have chosen is Happier Then Ever(clean)by Billie Eilish. My music video will involve 2 couples in an abusive, toxic relationship where the women is getting verbally and mentally abused  and is also isolated from her loved ones. She gets sudden flashbacks of them happy and how easily a person could change.

One shot of my camerawork will include of an over the should shot where the man in the car is spamming the women and this will communicate how controlling the man is. My second shot will be a medium short shot angle of the women getting shouted at and hit by the man while she looks tired and miserable before the happy memory comes up, this will communicate that she’s used to this and feels numb to the abuse. My third shot will include of a medium long shot of the women falling back into the swimming pool while she’s letting herself drown into the water and this will communicate that she’s tired of the pain and wanting to find an end to it.

The representation of the abusive man reinforces gender stereotype of how men have more power and dominance in the relationship and that women are seen as more of the abused and weaker person which shows that us women are inferior compared to men.

My target audience is to people from any age who go through domestic abuse and violence as well because I want them to know that their not alone and that they should leave through the first red flag they see and that it can happen with people you trust the most. My purpose of the music video is not only to reach out to those who have been through it but also to reach awareness of domestic abuse and violence and that no one should be silenced from talking about it.
